Supported charities 2019--2020

One of the highlights of our year was when, at our concert in December, we were able to present cheques of £1000 to each of our charities of the year Lighthouse Women's Aid and Suffolk Accident and Rescue Service. You can find out more about the work of these great local charities by clicking on their logos, below.

We were delighted to be able to donate cheques of £500 to the charities Dogs for Good and Musica at our end of year gig at St. Peter's by the Waterfront. We also held a raffle at this event which raised £165 for local homeless people, which was passed on to them via the organisation Help Our Homeless. You can read about the work of all three charities by clicking on the links below.

Dogs for Good - an innovative charity, exploring ways dogs can help people overcome specific challenges and enrich and improve lives and communities.

Musica - a Suffolk-based charity that gives disadvantaged people the chance to learn something new and exciting through the power of music.

Help Our Homeless - a group of agencies that work in Ipswich helping those who are homeless or who are at the risk of being made homeless. We exist to try and address the issues that lead to people becoming homeless, as well as assisting those who are homeless in finding new accommodation.

How do Suffolk Soul Singers choose the charities every year?

As a community choir we are committed to involve all members in everything that we do, so, every year, choir members send through suggestions for charities that are dear to their hearts and we have a vote to select the most popular.

What we are doing to support our charities?

Through our performances we generate income from the fees that we charge. We deduct our running costs and aim to donate a lump sum to our nominated charities at least once a year.
Sometimes we perform at events to help them raise funds or join them at social gatherings.

Over the past five years we have donated over £4,000 to charities including:

4YP (Suffolk Young People's Health Project)
Ipswich Baby Bereavement Group
Suffolk West Citizens Advice Bureau

The Bus Shelter

Suffolk Family Carers

Ormiston Families
Suffolk Age U.K

Suffolk MIND
British Heart Foundation

Brooke's Wish to Walk
Stepping Stones Nursery

Feedback from 4YP on receipt of a £500 donation from SSS, January 2018:

"Our sincerest thanks go to the Suffolk Soul Singers for their incredible donation in support of young people, which they presented at their amazing concert yesterday.
Representing 4YP, Daniel somehow managed to give an impressive impromptu speech despite being blown away by their generosity & outstanding singing talent at their amazing concert at St Peter's by the Waterfront"

Thanks from the Baby Bereavement Group for their cheque for £500 presented at our concert at St. Peter's by the Waterfront in January.

"So wonderful that this amazing charity has been recognised for the wonderful support that it provides for bereaved families. Just wanted to share this and to say thank you once again ‘Suffolk Soul Singers’ for the funds you raised to help this charity continue with their vital work and support "Ali Brett
