Who are we?
Suffolk Soul Singers is a friendly, community choir, based in Ipswich, but with members from much further afield. Started in 2009, we now have a membership of around 40-45 singers. We are open to anyone over the age of 16, who enjoys singing, regardless of experience. There are no auditions and you dont need to be able to read music - as we learn everything "by ear."
We are a unique group of singers, not part of a local or national franchise. We do not use recorded backing tracks; we always sing to live music - much more fun, as well as allowing us to adapt our performances to suit the occasion.
What do we do?
As the name would suggest, we focus primarily on singing soul music, but we also include gospel, reggae and some contemporary pop songs in our repertoire
Our songs are arranged by our Musical Director, Andi Hopgood, especially for us. We sing in four sections - soprano (high), alto (middle range ladies, tenor (lower range ladies and top range men) and bass (low). Please let us know which group you think you are likely to want to join.
We rehearse on Thursdays, 6 pm to 8 pm, during term time, at Ipswich Academy, Brazier's Wood Road, Ipswich, IP3 OSP (just off the Nacton Road).
We hold a couple of major concerts a year but we are also booked for other events, including weddings, graduations, garden parties, open days etc. Any profits that we make from our performances are donated to charity.
How do I join?
Please contact our secretary, Viv by email - firstname.lastname@example.org, providing your name, telephone number and email address, as well as the section you are interested in joining. (N.B. It is usually possible to change sections if you find you have chosen the wrong one initially).
You will then be invited to join us for a free taster session to see if you like what we do. At the end of the session, you can let us know if you wish to join, Our membership fees are £45 a term (3 terms in a year), which can be paid by instalments, if desired.
We look forward to hearing from you......
